Well!
I am pleased that I featured the 'old' one a few weeks ago on
my programme. I sensed that the new one was going to be something
rather special...I under-estimated just HOW special it is!
Folkies - it is brilliant. I love the story telling which makes
the history of Eureka so much more relevant.
I agree with Ted Egan - it should be presented, played and used
as a teaching tool in all of our schools.
Kat & Titch - you do John's work proud - Emma - you aren't
bad either!
Some years back I made the pilgrimage to Ballarat, to visit
Eureka, where we as a nation came to the end of innocence. I
was angered and saddened to see the flag under which our statement
of freedom was aired. Angered that some past mayor of Ballarat
had the temerity to have sample bits of it cut off - as gifts
to visiting dignitaries; saddened that so little was thought
of the flag which has been the symbol of so many freedom seekers.
It is a tale that I have rarely failed to tell my audience whenever
I have played either the first Eureka, or other songs written
of the era.
The tingles are going down my arms as I listen to the new CD.
Keep it up!
