Hi
all, It’s John here. Only the other day a friend gave
me a CD copy of a cassette tape of a show Colcannon did
at the Old Queen’s Arms in 1988. “1988”
I said to him “Are you sure? And where’s the
Old Queens Arms”. “Round the old king’s
neck” he wittily replied.
Anyway
I listened to the CD and I would have sworn that we never
did any of those songs. Some of them I’ve never heard
of!! It’s just amazing that Colcannon could still
be going 20 years later. I mean Kat’s only 35 now
– isn’t she?
The
early recording prompted us to think of the many other live
recordings we’ve done over that time and we got to
thinking that it might be good to produce a retrospective
CD (double CD?) of songs we haven’t recorded in the
studio. It could be a special once only limited offer for
sale only at our birthday bash in August.
Oh
yes, the birthday bash. We’re just finalising a venue
and date in August and then we’ll be letting you know
all about it. We’ve got original member Mike O’Callaghan
playing some early songs with us. We can’t have original
fiddler Lorna Parker as she’s living in Darwin now
– pity! Sian O’Callaghan will be playing some
songs as will Emma Luker. I think we’re going to be
lucky enough to have virtuoso bassist Damien Steele-Scott
as well. The current line-up will do some of our recent
stuff and then – THE GRAND FINALE – you’ll
have to wait and see what that entails.
We’re
also busy writing some new songs and looking to pinch good
songs from other people (as you do) as well as investigating
developing “The Eureka Suite” and “The
Kelly Collection” for the theatre.
So…lots
happening in Colcannon world.
Keep
all of August free for now and we’ll keep you posted.
